Originally, the founders of Buc-ee’s only had a simple concept for their second store.
In the early 1980s, Arch Aplin (nicknamed “Beaver”), the founder of Buc-ee’s opened his first convenience store in Texas. He was inspired by the family business and wanted to create a better customer experience by focusing on three things: cleanliness, friendliness, and maintaining inventory.
Instead of aggressively expanding, the business grew incrementally. One store became several, and then the several stores became dozens of stores. The concept evolved from small neighborhood convenience stores to huge travel centers that attract visitors from across America.
