Certain holidays may serve the purpose of discovering many historical and architectural monuments. But occasionally, there are trips that can turn into something unforgettable thanks to the company and companions one travels with. One of those unforgettable trips takes place in New York City, where the traveler that day has invited his mother. The traveler has brought her to NYC so that he could show her this famous city for the first time.
The first moments of their trip started at JFK Airport, where two excited travelers arrived after a long flight from Germany. Their first ride to Manhattan by the yellow cab proved to be a very iconic trip, during which the view to the skyline began to appear on the horizon.
Instead of simply enjoying the sight of the statue from a distance, the travelers obtained rare Crown Access tickets, which were reserved several months before the visit. The visitors took a winding road through the steep spiral staircase of the Lady Liberty, and it was one of the most remarkable experiences of the journey, as they could see not only the monument itself but the whole city skyline.
The weather in New York City, however, proved to be unpredictable. Heavy rain and storm threats interrupted their journey, but that did not spoil the mood of the travelers of the day. Sometimes just having the opportunity to eat in a nice and warm restaurant at the top of the building where one watches the rain pouring down the streets of the city can give people as many memories as visiting the most famous places.
Once the skies cleared, Central Park revealed another side of the New York. It was a vast expanse of green and trees surrounded by towering structures, creating the impression of a peaceful retreat from the clamorous lifestyle of the city. In its paths, people could walk, eat the hot dogs from a vendor, listen to street performers, and take home an old-fashioned photographic souvenir to remind them of their trip.
A trip to New York City would be incomplete without taking a trip to Times Square. Neon lights, throngs of people, street performers, gift shops, and the essence of the place greeted tourists with everything they expected from this famed location.
While on the trip, one of the most memorable places visited was the 9/11 Memorial, where visitors could see the areas that once held the Twin Towers and also take time to consider the meaning of what happened that fateful day. Later, further visits to the museum explained more about the disaster and the recovery that began afterward, making this one of the most unforgettable experiences of the journey.
One of the high points of the trip was the visit to One World Observatory, the highest watch deck in New York City. Seeing New York City from daylight to dusk before finally seeing it turn into a sea full of lights was unforgettable.
Apart from the broad and well-known tourist spots, the whole trip was full of tiny events that reflected the local character. There were more marvelous adventures like walking along Wall Street, visiting famous buildings connected to George Washington, going by ferry to Brooklyn, taking pictures of the Manhattan skyline from the Brooklyn Bridge Park.
But the greatest surprise appeared on the last night of the trip. The traveler took his mother to the Broadway theater without informing her in advance. Since visiting the Broadway theater has always been her dream, watching the performance turned out to be the best end to the trip.
When I think back, it wasn’t only the Statue of Liberty or Central Park or Times Square or even the stunning skyline of New York that made it special; New York was just the backdrop to something much more significant—a chance for a son to show his appreciation to his mother through a shared experience in one of the most beautiful places in the world.
