Luxury air travel seems too good to be true, but could it possibly be worth spending in excess of $1,000 on one flight? This question has become much more fascinating during a trip from UAE to Indonesia on Qatar Airways that included a short economy flight, a long layover in Doha, and the experience of the airline’s award-winning business class service.
To my surprise, the most remarkable part of the trip was not even the actual seat. It was everything that took place prior to boarding. Hamad International Airport in Doha appeared more like a luxury shopping mall rather than a transit point. Upscale shops, art pieces, deluxe waiting rooms, quiet relaxation areas, and clean facilities transformed the waiting for the connection into something that looked more like a trip, rather than wasted time.
The business class lounge certainly stood out as one of the best things about the trip. Instead of waiting at a crowded terminal, the passengers of Qatar Airways were able to relax in the lounge, savor food, shower, charge devices, or watch airplanes take off and land through the panoramic windows. Moreover, the personnel always asked if anyone needs help, thus making the entire experience
It is intriguing to note that the journey commenced in the economy class, which only lasted for one hour. Even though the duration of the flight was short, the seating was comfortable enough to create a good impression. The economy seats had several characteristics such as reasonable leg space, educational individual screens, and complimentary travel snacks.
Upon arrival in the business cabin, the atmosphere changed. The seating arrangement allowed all passengers aisle access, and hence, the seats felt more like personal rooms rather than conventional seats of the plane. Various attributes of the seating arrangement, such as large screens and satisfactory leg space contributed substantially to the passengers’ experience.
The food served during the flight, along with the flexibility of the timetable helped to improve the overall experience even further. There was a menu for the passengers to choose their meals from.
Another delightful feature came as a result of small details. The high-grade amenity kits, cozy sheets, thick blankets, fluffy pillows, and vigilant cabin crew created the right atmosphere on board. The airplane also provided enough space to stretch out once the seat was transformed to a flat bed, making it possible for tall travelers to sit comfortably.
However, not everything was that perfect. The Wi-Fi connection on board was sufficient for texting or casual surf on the Net, but there was no opportunity to stream down videos. This moment might be unimportant for the majority of passengers, but it deserves intention because of the type of ticket.
After flying for some number of hours, the landing in Jakarta was smooth. Because of electronic immigration improvement in Indonesia, going out of the airport was completed in a matter of minutes finally making the already pleasant journey stress-free.
The benefit of having priority check-in, an excellent lounge, knowledgeable staff, good food, and comfortable rest combined. For long-haul travelers who take night flights, the small benefits have a large impact.
While it may be considered expensive in the amount of around $1,600, the whole experience is worth more than just the ticket price. It is about arriving in shape without stress and being able to relax throughout the whole way to the destination.
